General Motors is recalling nearly 600,000 vehicles in the United States due to an engine defect that could lead to serious malfunctions and even accidents.

The recall affects models such as the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC Sierra, manufactured between 2021 and 2024, all equipped with a 6.2L V8 gasoline engine. Drivers may notice symptoms like engine noises, loss of power, and difficulty accelerating.

The NHTSA stated that repairs will be carried out free of charge, including part replacements and updates to the owner’s manual.

Between April 2021 and February this year, GM received over 28,000 complaints related to engine failures, including incidents involving crashes, injuries, and fires. The automaker clarified that not all cases of engine failure were clear-cut and that most damages were not linked to serious accidents. The NHTSA also warned that owners should bring their vehicles in for inspection at dealerships.

This recall joins a series of others issued by automakers such as Kia, which also recalled thousands of vehicles in 2024. Tesla, although recalling the most vehicles last year, did not lead in total recall campaigns, with Stellantis holding that position.
